DAY TWO, part three: Dallas/Fort Worth, TX to Abilene, TX
Billy Bob’s at the stockyards in Ft Worth was really cool. A great place to stop! Time being what it was, and temperatures being what they were, and the fact we had 4 minors with us put a bit of a crimp in the possibilities, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. Ava and I even took a spin on the dance floor. But this is definitely a “visit again” location!
We left Billy Bob’s and headed back to the highway. John has a tendency to drive this thing as if he is in a little sports car. And the GPS on the computer on my lap gives a readout of his speed (hehehe!). No sooner had I commented on what might possibly be the speed limit on the road, we passed a cop. No sooner did we pass the cop, than we saw blue lights in the windows. No sooner did we see blue lights, than I had to bite my tongue to swallow the “I-told-you-so” that was welling up within. But I did (until just now in print). : )
We got off with a warning from what turned out to be a very nice cop and continued our journey west to Abilene. We haven’t had to make a reservation anywhere just yet, but I decided to call ahead and make sure there was room for us. The man at Buck Creek RV Park was RUDE. Abilene is far enough west that I can safely say southern hospitality is DEAD. It’s just for a night, but I’m tempted to go elsewhere.
Now we’re almost to the rude guys campground, and we’re too tired to look elsewhere. We had to drive late in order to maximize time in Roswell and the Grand Canyon. It’ll be worth it. Right now we just can’t wait to sleep. The kids have been sleeping for hours already!
